FAQ

Is Seresto safe for puppies?
Yes, It’s safe for puppies aged 7 weeks and older.

Is there a resting period between taking off an old collar and putting a new one?
No. It's important to put it on without delay to ensure continuous protection of your cat.

My Seresto collar doesn’t smell at all. Is this normal?
Yes. Seresto is odourless, which means it doesn't have any of the unpleasant smells you usually associate with older flea and tick collars.

Can my dog use a normal collar together with the Seresto collar?
Yes, no problem, as long as contact with hair and skin is evident.

What if my dog gets the collar stuck on something?
Seresto as a double safety-release mechanism. First, if your dog gets trapped, the collar will widen with a hard pull, allowing for a quick release. Secondly, the collar has a predetermined breaking point, so a harder pull will break it.

How often should I check the fit of the Seresto collar on a growing puppy?
Puppies grow at different rates and we recommend frequent checks of the collar and readjustment of the slack if necessary.

Can I remove the collar for a brief period and reapply it? Will it still work?
For the best flea and tick protection, Seresto should be on your dog continuously and ideally all year round. However, it's not a problem if you temporarily need to remove the collar (e.g. during grooming).

What are the active ingredients in Seresto?
There are two: imidacloprid, which kills adult fleas and flea larvae; and flumethrin, which repels and kills all life stages of ticks. Both ingredients act on contact without the need to bite.

Can ticks still get into my dog when wearing a Seresto collar?
Ticks may still grab onto your dog’s coat, even when wearing a Seresto collar. The active ingredients work on contact, which means the ticks need to grab onto the fur for it to do it's job. However, once the ticks have climbed on, they will fall off and die and they will not have a chance to bite.
Therefore, you may sometimes also see ticks tangled in your cat’s fur (but they are dead).

Is it a problem if my dog starts chewing the collar?
The vast majority of active ingredients are bound in the collar matrix and not on the surface so they are not released or absorbed when the collar gets chewed. Some mild gastrointestinal signs may occur, if any, but it's best to avoid chewing by your dog. If your dog manages to get the collar into the mouth it’s likely that it is too loose, so adjust it. Two fingers should fit between the collar and your cat’s neck, not too tight, but snug.
